Submission Guidelines

CRITERIA FOR SUBMISSION AND ACCEPTANCE

JOURNAL OF APPLIED RESEARCH IN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

1. SHOULD BE APPROXIMATELY TEN SINGLE-SPACEDPAGES: Journal articles should require no more than a short to intermediate time commitment by reader.

2. OF INTEREST TO A NATIONAL PROFESSIONAL AND RESEARCH AUDIENCE: Journal articles should extend noticeable effort to educate Journal readership and provide clear message as to what professionals from across the nation can learn and appreciate from the article.

3. AVOID COMMUNITY AND PROGRAM-SPECIFIC SUCCESS STORIES: Journal articles are not intended to glorify a particular program or proclaim a community’s virtues and comeback. The Journal’s perspective is a more objective analysis of programs and community revitalization efforts which interweaves both success and shortcomings and which provides understanding of how and why a program/community operates and performs.

4. CLEARLY WRITTEN, CLEAR INTRODUCTORY AND CONCLUDING STATEMENTS: Journal articles should clearly and early on alert the reader to the articles purposes and intents and provide a clear guide regarding the organization of the article. The conclusion should concisely summarize the main points and the lessons to be learned.

EDITORIAL POLICY AND SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

1. Author is responsible for accuracy of citations, footnotes and quotes. The Journal will not review nor verify such citations, footnotes, or quotes nor will it assume any responsibility in regards to this matter. The Journal will clearly notify its readership that such questions and issues should be addressed by the author. To the extent the Journal identifies as part of its normal evaluation process any difficulties in these areas, it will both alert the author and will not proceed further until addressed satisfactorily by the author. The Journal of Applied Research in Economic Development is NOT a peer-reviewed academic journal.

2. Upon submission the proposed article will be reviewed by at least two C2ER-related individuals, including the Editor, and will be evaluated on the basis of factors identified in the accompanying “Criteria for Submission and Acceptance”. Comments and concerns will be sent to author usually within two weeks. Final acceptance for publication is at the sole discretion of the Journal editorial staff.

3. The Journal will edit and adapt article to conform to appearance and formatting of its webbased site and will, if author does not provide, insert graphics and columnar quotes in its sole discretion. The Journal will provide pre-publication access to the author and feedback from the author will be incorporated if possible. To the extent that adjustment is not possible, the article can be rescheduled for later publication. If author does submit graphics, the author is responsible for proving to the Journal that such graphics satisfy legal and copyright requirements and the author is responsible for any cost associated with the submitted graphics. Graphics should be in good taste and can be rejected by the Editor.

4. The published article is available to any reader and not limited to C2ER, LMIA, and APDU membership and is not subject to copyright. The Journal is not responsible for usage of the article by any reader. Published article will be included in Journal archives indefinitely and will be available for readers for an indefinite period of time.

5. Scheduling for publication will be in the sole discretion of the Journal but normally is within three months of acceptance by the Journal. The Journal will provide formal notification of acceptance by email.

6. Editors of the Journal will suggest changes in grammar, sentence structure and paragraphing to facilitate conciseness, clarity, and compatibility to Journal formatting. Comments can and will be made by the Editor based on the Editor’s understanding of the reader’s perspective. The Journal will not attempt to enforce any editorial position on the author regarding the subject matter and content-which will remain the sole discretion of the author. The Editor will utilize spell check and will correct any misspellings and grammar.

7. The author is responsible for accuracy of footnotes, statistics, quotes, graphics submitted and reader concerns can be expressed in accompanying chat/feedback column which is a normal element of the published article. Author is expected to address such questions and concerns in a fair, timely and objective manner through this mechanism for the period of time the issue is maintained (usually one month). To the extent that C2ER FACEBOOK and TWITTER (or similar social media) comments are made by readers and members, the Journal is not responsible and a response by the author is at the discretion of the author. Any response, however, should be tasteful and civil in accordance to C2ER standards.

8. Once accepted and published by the Journal, the article cannot be submitted as written to other sources of publication. Reworked submissions of this article, after publication, should clearly cite the original article and its source.

9. Once accepted and published by the Journal, the Journal and C2ER and its related and associate entities may cite and use the article in future marketing, social media, research, blogs (such as In the Trenches or its successors) and publications.
